Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) for Daily Chemical & Personal Care
Landoil CMC is one of the best surfactants (surface active agents) used in synthetic detergents because of its properties of rapid dissolution, good transparency and fluidity of the dissolved solution. It acts as an emulsifying agent or protective colloid to prevent dirt and grease from reattachment on the fabric.
Working as an active washing component, CMC is primarily used to emulsify and protect colloid characteristics in detergent. When it is dissolved in water, anions are created during the washing process to enable the both object surface and dirt particles to be negatively charged. This helps prevent dirt particles from redepositing on surfaces or fabrics. So, the detergents and soaps containing CMC are featured by enhanced cleaning ability and shortened washing time. As a result, the white fabric can maintain its whiteness while the colored fabric can preserve the vibrancy of the original color.
Advantages of CMC Used in Synthetic Detergents- Used as a detergent additive, delivering excellent washing effect when used in hard water to wash cotton fabric;
- Effective foam stabilizing capacity, not only shortening washing time but also promoting the repeated use of detergent;
- Can help reduce irritation of the skin due to its ability of make the fabric soft after washing;
- Along with the mentioned features, detergent grade CMC also stabilizes the detergents without redeposition;
- Soap: Adding an appropriate amount of CMC for soap making can significantly raises the quality of the soaps. It enables soap to be flexible and pliable therefore making it easier for pressing and processing. The finished products have superior look with smooth surface, and the fragrance and color are dispersed uniformly in the soap.
- Cleaning paste: CMC acts as thickening agent and stabilizing agent in the cleaning paste to effectively prevent layering of components, while enabling the cleaning paste to be smooth, heat resistant and scent.
- Washing powder: CMC as a foam stabilizing additive can not only shorten the washing time but also make the fabric soft after washing, thus reducing irritation of the skin.
- Dishwashing liquid: The addition of CMC makes the product transparent with high viscosity.
- Others: As a vital additive in daily chemical and personal care products, CMC is widely found in shampoo, body lotion, hand sanitizer, shoe polish, toilet cleaner, etc.
- Detergent: For washing white fabric, 2% of CMC is recommended to add to the detergent for maintaining over 90% of the whiteness. Therefore, the general detergent is preferably to be added with 1 to 3 percent of CMC.
- Soap: A 10% transparent slurry is made by preparing CMC, and the fragrance and color can be added to the thick slurry in the mixer before being thoroughly mixed with the dry soap flakes and pressed to the desired shapes. The general amount of CMC used in soap making ranges between 0.5 and 1.5 percent. It is better to add more CMC when the soap flakes have high salt content.
- Washing powder: CMC acts as an anti-redeposition agent in washing powder to prevent dirt from being redeposited, the ideal addition amount is 0.3-1.0%.
- Shampoo/body lotion/hand sanitizer/shoe polish/toilet cleaner: CMC provides products with enhanced thickening and foam stabilizing abilities without layering of components, the ideal addition amount is between 0.6 and 0.7 percent.
