Absorbable Sutures
Knotless barbed suture made from synthetic absorbable monofilament polydioxanone
PDO barbed suture is a knotless wound closure device composed of synthetic absorbable monofilament polydioxanone. The barbs are designed and arranged in a spiral pattern at a 72° angle on the suture's surface. This ensures efficient wound closure by providing both security and speed, significantly improving surgical efficiency and reducing the time required for wound closure.
Uni-directional barbed sutures are available with a terminal loop and attached with an atraumatic surgical needle. Bi-directional barbed sutures are available without loop and two atraumatic surgical needles attached on either end.
Advantages
- Knotless barbed sutures close wounds faster than interrupted technique for reducing operation time
- Barbed sutures offer superior tissue-holding strength compared to interrupted technique with coated PGA sutures, and continuous technique with PDO sutures. Unique thread design with circumferential unidirectional barbs and triangular stopper provides a secure hold and consistency, making it easier to manage tension on every pass, that results in better wound healing.
- Potential to reduce knot-related complications
- Ultra sharp needle point for atraumatic tissue penetration
- Needle coated with silicone for smooth tissue passage
- Predictable absorption profile

Absorbable knotfree barb suture 360 degree spiral barb design
Single needle type- 360-degree barb
- One end is attached needle, the other end is an end loop
- Barb depth = about 30% deep into the inner core 1
- Barb angle = about 15 degrees 1
Suture from the middle of the incision, so the tension can be controlled from the center.
- 360-degree barb
- Start suturing from the middle of the incision to the both ends;
- Fix both ends of the incision with back seams or side seams when finishing the suturing
- Suitable for the suturing of the soft tissues
