Lost Foam Casting

Lost foam casting, also known as an investment casting process or policast process is an accurate casting method that does not require further machining and has been used since ancient times. When the method was first developed, ancient people would use beeswax for molding, but now we have EPS, STMMA, EPMMA, and other macromolecule molds that are more precise and repeatable.
Lost foam casting is suitable for products of all sizes, grades and quality for large scale manufacturing. Complex castings can be simply designed by assembling foamed plastic mold parts.
The castings are smooth on the surface without burr. The surface roughness can reach Ra3.2-12.5μm and the precision can reach CT7-9 with machining allowance of 1.5-2mm which save 40%-50% time of following machining, sometimes without need for rework at all.
