The client required this product to feature a bright chrome electroplated surface. For die castings, they must be polished before electroplating. However, this product featured an abnormal shape, particularly in the middle part that is difficult for tools and polishing wheels to get in when polishing. If surface polishing is not able to reaching mirror effect, eventually it will affect the product’s surface electroplating effect and yield.

At the beginning of product development, we hoped the client could modify the product’s structure by dividing the product into two parts or making large structural adjustments. In this way, the difficulty in polishing the product can be reduced. However, the client disagreed, for changing the product’s shape would affect the visual effect of the whole TV set once assembled.

In order to maintain the client’s design, our engineers convened a meeting of mold design, CNC machining, manufacturing department managers for discussion. Through optimizing the mold structure facilitates to make mold design for post processing. At the same time, CNC fine machining, instead of ordinary post processing, is employed for inner side of product, enabling it to reach higher smoothness, so as to facilitate the final mirror polishing.

Eventually, the product was smoothly delivered in the stage of mass production, excessing 12% the qualified rate than the estimate. In the new product development, we attached importance to utilizing the strength of teamwork to solve the problems encountered in technology and production. Thus, the production got through smoother, while higher production yield was realized.
