Red Phosphorus Powder
Red phosphorus powder is a kind of purple amorphous powder, shiny and non-toxic. When heated to 590 ℃ under high pressure, it begins to melt. If it is not pressurized, it will not melt and sublimate. After vaporization, it will condense to get white phosphorus.
Red phosphorus forms a high polymerization structure of chain or ring with the single bond of P4 tetrahedron, which has high stability, is insoluble in water and carbon disulfide, slightly soluble in absolute ethanol, and soluble in alkali liquor.
It reacts with nitric acid to produce phosphoric acid, which is heated in chlorine to produce chloride. Yellow phosphorus is heated to 250 ℃ under vacuum and normal pressure for several days, and gradually converts into red phosphorus.
